Daniel Christian Wahl was born in Munich in 1971 and grew up in Germany. By the time he was 28 he had travelled in 35 different countries on six continents. His early career was as a marine biologist and scuba diving instructor, before he decided to focus on sustainability and sustainable communities in 1998. Daniel also holds an MSc in Holistic Science (Schumacher College, 2002) and a PhD in Natural Design (University of Dundee, 2006).

In reflecting on the initial dive into potential early recognition of an inner connection to everything, Daniel notes a conversation with his brother at about 9 years old while living in Munich in 1980. He sets the stage well, revealing conditions and societal fears at the time in Germany. It will impact your understanding of the progress we’ve made.

He speaks to an early awareness of connections to the ocean and then forests, which led him to understand a perspective as being a part of a larger system. Finding deep access to our larger being, resting in our nature as nature, most find it in nature and don’t believe they can find it in metro areas. He shares perspectives you might find insightful, even intriguing.

Daniel’s depth of inquiry and not knowing or presuming answers allows us to ask better questions, to peer deeper into the mechanisms that are include healthy systems and systemic challenges, such as structural violence. He mentions several key areas of concern and some pitfalls as well as peaks in collaborative achievements.

The powerful question he offers, echoes throughout Designing Regenerative Cultures is, “How do we live the questions together?” Is it possible that question has potential in our collective growth as a global society? The conversation dives deeper than most in the exploration of synergy in systems and the questions still to be asked in the process of developing a sustainable and thriving world.
